Camera
Camera tech is the most important part of making the trailer the best there possibly is, from angles to shots to equipment and cameras this section of productions determines whether we achieve a good mark at the end. At this stage we practice how to use different camera equipment such as the: Steadicam, Shoulder Rig, Tracking dolly, Tripod and slider to make sure were familiar with these equipments when it comes to shooting. We also practiced shooting in different angles using the various equipment to start building up how our overall trailer will look at the end.
Camera Settings
This is the overall setting of how ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture working together in a triangle to frame the perfect shot with the best desired lighting with minimum noise with a great depth of field.
Shutter SpeedShutter speed is the amount of time the digital camera's shutter remains open when capturing a photograph or video. The shutter is the piece of the digital camera that opens to allow light to reach the image sensor when the photographer or cinematographer presses the shutter button.
|
Shutter speed is measured in fractions of a second, such as 1/1000th of a second. Longer shutter speeds are required for low-light photos. With the shutter open for a longer amount of time, more light can strike the image sensor to record or take a photo. Shorter shutter speeds are required for photos containing fast-moving subjects, thereby avoiding blurry photos.
|
ApertureThe Aperture is the size of the adjustable opening inside the lens, which determines how much light passes through the lens to strike the image sensor.
|
A digital cameras Aperture is measured in F-Stop, and higher F-Stops signify a smaller amount of light. The aperture changes depending on the camera settings for a particular frame or shot.
Aperture also controls the depth of field a image has before it has been captured. The lower the F-Stop point the shallower the depth of field meaning the more the subject is in focus and the background out of focus. The higher the F-Stop point the less shallower the depth of field meaning the more both the background and subject are in focus.

SHOULDER RIGTuesday 14th October 2014
10.40 - 12.15 |
|
OverviewUsing the Tripod for a high angle test shot was very useful. A Tripod is key for steady and non shaky footage so no matter what we do we will always use a tripod unless we want to achieve a hand held effect. Overall I believe the High angle test shot is very important to depict superiority within the shot and this will be very useful especially when we film our protagonist and antagonist.
|
OverviewUsing the Shoulder Rig was very useful especially because I was stable. moving with the shoulder rig creates jerky footage but in this video the shot was very steady as I crouched into one position and filmed this with the shoulder Rig. Overall the shoulder rig is very useful for conversation shots and over the shoulder shots and this will be very key in our trailer especially the conversation between the protagonist and extra.

Week 1
Thursday 16th October 2014 12.15 - 1.45 WE WILL BE TESTING:
1. TRACKING DOLLY 2. PANNING SHOTS |
|
INSPIRATION
This is one of the most inspirational tracking shots that attracted us to love and really want to use the tracking dolly. In this shot the camera tracks from the left to the right and the camera sits on a tripod. this helps create the extremely steady shot in which is key to distinguish the difference between a tracking shot and a steadicam shot.
Overall from this iconic tracking scene we have incorporated using the tracker in majority of our shots during the shooting of our trailer.

OverviewThe Tracking dolly was on of the best tools I tested with during our Camera Techniques testing. I believe cause I had previous experience with the tracking dolly it was very easy to use and I believe this piece of equipment will be very key in our Trailer and we will use this a number of times especially for running shots.
|
OverviewPanning shots overall show everything in the scene from the left side to the right and this is very helpful for showing tall buildings again from an inferior angle. We may use this type of shot for our trailer depending on the type of building we use as our establishing shot but overall I believe a panning shot is going to be quiet useful in our trailer.

1. STEADICAM 2. LOW ANGLE SHOTS |

Inspiration
|
This is one of the most iconic steadicam shots from the horror movie the 'the shining'. with this shot the framing focus and stabilisation of the steadicam is very important to frame the perfect 'Steady' shot. this is a great example of a steadicam shot which has inspired us to testing out the seadicam during our testing period. the camera steadily follows the subject in which i practiced in my testiong shot in the narrow hallway.
Overall from this inspirational video we have incorporated using the steadicam for our test video using the 'flyCAM5000 AND THE BODY SUIT. |

OverviewWhen using the SteadiCam it wasn't as useful as I expected because the SteadiCam was not balanced. This created the jerky and shaky footage. But over all the steady cam is very good for movement and walking shots but this would not be needed in our trailer as we decided to use the tracking dolly for a more stabilized and professional looking shot.
|
OverviewLow angle shots on a tripod is very useful for an establishing shot because it shows everything in the scene from an inferior angle. this will be quiet useful in out trailer for authoritative shots and an establishing shot of the whole abandoned school.
